How to Build a Minimum Viable Dossier

The four pillars of a great dossier

1. The Core problem What is the one specific pain point you are solving? Stop talking about "revolutionizing the industry." Talk about the person who is struggling right now and how your tool fixes that struggle.

2. The Feedback Loop How are you talking to customers? Your dossier should list your primary feedback channels. If you aren't talking to at least three users a week, you aren't building a company; you're building a hobby.

3. The Unit Economics You don't need to be a math genius, but you do know your numbers. What does it cost to acquire a customer? What is their lifetime value? If these numbers don't make sense on paper, they won't make sense in the bank.

4. The "No" List This is the most important part. What are you *not* doing? A great startup is defined more by what it ignores than what it chooses to do. Write down the features you are saying no to. It will keep your team focused.

Keep it accessible

A dossier is worthless if it’s buried in a folder somewhere. It should be the first thing a new hire reads. It should be the document you pull up when you’re arguing about a new feature.
