Anthropic has released Cowork, a new AI agent capability that extends the power of its Claude Code tool to non-technical users. The feature allows users to complete tasks such as reorganizing folders, generating spreadsheets, and drafting reports without human intervention.
Cowork was built in approximately one week and a half using Claude Code itself, showcasing a recursive feedback loop where AI tools are being used to build better AI tools. The system relies on an "agentic loop" architecture, which enables the agent to formulate a plan, execute steps in parallel, check its own work, and ask for clarification if needed.
Anthropic has also introduced an initial set of skills specifically designed for Cowork that enhance Claude's ability to create documents, presentations, and other files. However, the company warns users about potential dangers, such as deleting local files or being vulnerable to prompt injection attacks.
The launch of Cowork places Anthropic in direct competition with Microsoft's Copilot AI, but Anthropic's approach differs by confining the agent to specific folders and requiring explicit connectors for access.
