Google adds AI Skills to Chrome to help you save favorite workflows

Google announced a new feature called Skills for its Chrome web browser, which allows users to save and reuse AI prompts across different web pages. This feature ties into the company's Gemini AI integration, which was introduced alongside several competitors in the browser ecosystem. With Skills, users can create AI prompts that can be accessed with just a click, such as asking for vegan substitutions on recipe websites.

The feature will allow users to access their saved Skills by typing a forward slash ( / ) or clicking the plus sign ( + ) button while using Gemini in Chrome. These Skills can also be edited at any time and work across multiple tabs. In tests, Google found that early adopters used Skills for tasks like health and wellness, shopping comparisons, and summarizing lengthy documents.

Google is launching a Skills library to help users get started with the feature, which will offer common tasks and workflows in areas like productivity, shopping, recipes, budgeting, and more. Users can customize these pre-programmed Skills by editing the prompt to fit their needs. The company notes that Skills will ask for confirmation before taking certain actions, such as sending an email or adding an event to your calendar.

Skills will begin rolling out today to Chrome desktop users who are signed into their Google account, with the feature initially working only if the browser's language is set to English (US).
