๐ŸŽ™๏ธ How I AI: HTML is the new Markdown: How Anthropic engineers are building with Claude Code

Anthropic engineers are using HTML artifacts to plan projects, create interactive specs, and build throwaway micro-apps with their AI agent, Claude. Thariq Shihipar, an engineer on the Claude Code team, demonstrated how he uses HTML to engage with content, visualize plans, and maintain living design systems.

The use of HTML has become a superior format for communicating with AI agents, replacing Markdown due to its richer expression capabilities. Engineers are becoming "compute allocators" rather than code writers, as they decide how to spend compute resources on tasks. This shift requires critical skills such as defining boundaries and staying in sync with the agent throughout the process.

The team is experimenting with building custom, throwaway UIs for editing specific parts of plans using Claude's ability to create interactive interfaces. The future of agent output isn't more text, but rather more readable interfaces that make it easier to engage with and critique the work.
