It’s not just one thing — it’s another thing

A recent report by Barron's has found that the sentence construction "It's not just X, it's Y" has become increasingly common in corporate communications, particularly in the tech industry. According to the report, this phrase was used over 200 times in 2025, more than quadrupling from around 50 mentions in 2023. This trend is evident in various companies' statements and press releases.

Examples of this sentence construction include:

  • "In 2025, AI won't just be a tool; it will be a collaborator" (Cisco)
  • "The future of autonomy isn't just on the horizon; it's already unfolding" (Accenture)

Experts suggest that this trend is not coincidental, but rather a reflection of the increasing reliance on generative AI tools in writing. These tools are trained on existing writing styles and often use similar phrasing, including the "It's not just X, it's Y" construction.

Max Spero, CEO of AI detection tool Pangram, stated that this sentence structure is becoming increasingly common in corporate communications and press releases, suggesting a high incidence of AI use in these types of documents.
