Cursor, a four-year-old AI coding startup, is set to raise at least $2 billion in fresh capital from investors. The round is expected to be led by returning investors Thrive and Andreessen Horowitz, with a valuation of $50 billion prior to the new funding. Battery Ventures and Nvidia are also likely to participate.
Cursor's revenue has been growing rapidly, with the company forecasting an annualized run rate of over $6 billion for 2026. This represents a significant increase from its previous annualized revenue of $2 billion in February. The startup has recently achieved slight gross margin profitability, thanks to the introduction of its proprietary Composer model and ability to use less expensive models.
The new funding would nearly double Cursor's previous valuation of $29.3 billion and demonstrate its ability to attract significant investment despite competition from other AI-coding offerings such as Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex. The company has been trying to reduce its reliance on outside providers, which could help it avoid being replaced by rivals like Anthropic.
