Tesla brings its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston

Tesla is expanding its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston. The company made the announcement on social media, stating "Robotaxi is now rolling out in Dallas & Houston" along with a video showing Tesla vehicles driving without human monitors or drivers. This marks an expansion of the service, which was previously only available in Austin. In Austin, where the service launched last year and began offering rides without safety drivers in January 2023, Tesla's robotaxis have been involved in 14 crashes since launch, according to a February filing.

The company offers a more limited ride service with human drivers in the San Francisco Bay Area. However, crowdsourced data suggests that Tesla may not be running many vehicles in Dallas and Houston yet, with only one vehicle registered in each city on the Robotaxi Tracker website, compared to 46 active vehicles logged in Austin.

Tesla's expansion into new markets is a key development for founders and entrepreneurs interested in autonomous driving technology. The robotaxi service has the potential to disrupt traditional ride-hailing industries and provide a new transportation option for consumers.

The company's move into Dallas and Houston follows its earlier success with the service in Austin, which suggests that it may be successful in these new markets as well. However, the limited number of vehicles registered in each city so far suggests that the expansion is still in its early stages.
