Unauthorized group has gained access to Anthropic’s exclusive cyber tool Mythos, report claims

Unauthorized Users Gain Access to Cybersecurity Tool Mythos

A group of users has reportedly gained access to Mythos, a cybersecurity tool announced by Anthropic. According to Bloomberg, the unauthorized group accessed the tool through a third-party vendor and have been using it regularly since gaining access. The company has stated that they are investigating the report but found no evidence that the activity has impacted their systems.

The group is believed to be part of a private online forum where users share information about unreleased AI models. They gained access to Mythos by making an educated guess about its online location based on knowledge about Anthropic's model format. The group claims they are interested in "playing around" with new models, not using them for malicious purposes.

Anthropic had released Mythos to a select number of vendors, including Apple, as part of an initiative called Project Glasswing. The limited release was designed to prevent misuse by bad actors. If true, unauthorized use of Mythos could be a concern for Anthropic, which aimed to alleviate concerns about enterprise security with the exclusive release.

The company's spokesperson stated that they are investigating the report and have found no evidence of impact on their systems. However, the incident raises questions about the effectiveness of their security measures and the potential consequences of unauthorized access to sensitive tools.
