YouTube livestreams will now hold back ads during peak engagement to protect the vibe

YouTube announced this week that it will now temporarily pause ads during live streams when chat engagement reaches its peak. The platform uses an algorithm to recognize high energy levels in chats and automatically holds back ads for all viewers.

When a user supports their favorite creator with a Super Chat, Super Stickers, or gift purchase, they will receive an ad-free window immediately after the transaction. This change aims to help creators maintain viewer momentum by minimizing ad interruptions.

Additionally, YouTube announced several other updates for live creators, including expanded eligibility for gifts from viewers and new features such as GIFs sent directly from mobile devices during horizontal livestreams.

These changes come on the heels of a price increase for YouTube Premium subscriptions in the US, which will now cost $15.99 per month for individual plans and $26.99 per month for family plans.
