Bootstrapped

Self-funded startup without outside investment

Definition

A bootstrapped startup is one that's funded entirely by its founders using personal savings, early revenue, or organic growth — without taking investment from VCs, angels, or banks.

📌 Example

Basecamp, Mailchimp (initially), and Notion (in its early stages) were all bootstrapped for years before taking investment. Many indie hackers build profitable bootstrapped businesses intentionally.
