Cohort Analysis

Tracking grouped users over time

Definition

Cohort analysis is a method of tracking a group of users who share a common characteristic — typically sign-up date — over time. It reveals retention curves, LTV trends, and whether product improvements are actually helping newer users stick around.

📌 Example

A SaaS company notices its January cohort retained 60% after 3 months, while its March cohort retained 80% — a sign that a product change in February improved retention.
